On 11 April 2018 the Advertising Standards Authority upheld a complaint about an HMV Competitions prize draw on both points it raised. This page sets out what it ruled, with a link to the ruling.
What the ASA found
- Closing date. The date was extended. The ASA found the change was the promoter’s own choice rather than an unavoidable circumstance beyond its control. The prize was also reduced from a house to £7,000 cash.
- Free postal entry. The ASA found the postal entry instructions were separated from the ticket-buying links and easy to miss. The code says any free entry route should be explained clearly and prominently.

How Hoardsy runs its competitions
- Closing dates are never extended for slow sales.
- There’s no minimum number of sales: every end-draw prize and top instant prize is awarded, sold out or not.
- Every competition page shows its prizes and your chance per ticket before you enter.
- Every competition can be entered free by post, with the same chances as a paid ticket. See free postal entry.
